July 28th. 4hours 13 miles Great day....wind and current in my favor. That is probably a 4 hour day record. Hit a couple spots where I felt septic tanks could have been functioning better, but all in all it was OK. Pam went home last night and Kathy Cohen came on board. She did well, but was as adament about sunscreen as Pam. Dear Kelsey, I hope you made it to soccer camp ok. Like you, I am sorry I was not there to give you a hug goodbye. You surely must know my heart sent out a million hugs to you today. During my swim today, I composed a million letters to you. They all basically said the same thing. You are a beautifully sensitive, compassionate daughter, and I love you dearly. Visions of my lil' Kelsey passed through my head again and again. Your skinny long legs with that cute diapered butt hanging out from your summer dresses-your precious smile looking up at me. Now at 5'11 you do not literally look up to me anymore-and the time passed so quickly. Thanks for being understanding of my absence this summer. It was a sacrifice for all of us. Time is such an elusive thing. We casually say, "goodby, I love you, and I will see you later" not realizing that time is the worst thief of all. We do not realize when it is being stolen and no insurance company can give us a check to replace it. Memories we could have created were not, and the chance is gone. You and your siblings mean the world to me and I am blessed to be surrounded by so much love and caring. I pray you understand that I have never believed a mom's pupose is that of a maid. My job as a mom is not to continue "doing" for you. My job is to teach you to fly, and I cannot do that if my own wings are clipped. You know my passion for God's creation. You know my love for the river. And you know my love for you. All of this drives me down the river. I am sorry I could not hug you goodbye and wish you a safe trip. I am sorry I was not there to stuff your pillow pocket full of notes and Hersey's kisses, but a piece of my heart went with you today and will stay with you always.
